| libya | history of | Colonel Muammar Gaddafi | In 2011, a wave of revolution arose in the |Arab world|

In 2011, a wave of revolution arose in the Arab world
It was called the Arab Spring. In this so-called revolution, the Arab people against the dictatorships of their countries,
They rose up against tyrants and dictators who had been sitting for decades. This was the first time since the advent of social media
That a movement started on Facebook or Twitter and reached the streets. Through these platforms they not only communicated with each other
Rather, they used to do global propaganda against their oppressive governments. Among the countries in which the Arab Spring gained momentum, the North African country Libya was in the lead.
Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's dictatorship was established here for 42 years.
He was the black and white master of this sparsely populated country for four decades.
He was accused of using force and human rights violations against his opponents.
But there was also the fact that he maintained a political stability in the country.
Libya was not divided and business life in the country was going on.
Yes, it is also true that the politically minded people behind this curtain of stability were not happy.
Disappearances and killings of independent thinkers and dissidents by the police and intelligence were common.
People did not have democratic rights. There was also censorship on the media. It was a crime to say a word against the regime, against Colonel Gaddafi.
So when voting, democracy, freedom of expression and free press became common among the youth of the Arab world through social media.
So the Libyan youth also liked this idea. These were new things for them. The people of Libya, who have been stuck in a dictatorship for four decades, also got a chance
That they strive for change. They rose up in protest against the dictatorial regime of Muammar Gaddafi.
The revolution started with the arrest of a lawyer "Fathi Tarbeel".
These Lebanese were fighting one of the most important human rights cases in history.
What happened was that in 1996, 1200 prisoners were killed by government officials in Abu Salim prison in Tripoli, the Libyan capital.
Even though his trial had not yet taken place, the case had not been started.
Some Lebanese lawyers began efforts to bring justice to the families of these prisoners and to bring the killers to justice.
Some of the families of those killed lived in the coastal city of Benghazi.
Advocate Fathi Tarbeel was representing him.
After years of legal struggle, these families did not get justice
But on February 15, 2011, this lawyer Tarbil was arrested.
After their arrest, the families of the prisoners in Benghazi took to the streets
And started a protest for the release of the lawyer. Banners with pictures of the killed prisoners were also placed on the streets of Benghazi.
Other people also joined these protestors
And so the Benghazi movement became the center of revolutionary change in Libya.
The movement began with protests and years of accumulated anger began to boil over into violence.
And with these people, the political opponents of Colonel Gaddafi also joined with Kalashnikovs.
All of them launched attacks on military barracks and police stations in Benghazi.
Large quantities of weapons were looted and an armed struggle against Muammar Gaddafi's regime began.
That is, now the protesters also got weapons. They established their own government in Benghazi called the National Transitional Council.
He was to take over the government of Libya after Muammar Gaddafi.
It was his plan. Opposition leader Mustafa Abdul Jalil was appointed as the chairman of this council.
Colonel Gaddafi was also watching this situation from Tripoli. They had much more power than the rebels.
Fifty thousand soldiers, over two thousand tanks, thirty five helicopters and more than two hundred fighter jets were with the Lebanese military.
And this army was under the control of Colonel Gaddafi.
In the competition, the opponents had only twenty thousand fighters with only Kalashnikovs.
In addition, there were some mortar bombs, multiple rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns and a few tanks.
which were snatched from the Lebanese army. Yes, they did not have military vehicles and to make up for this shortage, heavy machine guns were installed on pick-up trucks.
And these vehicles were converted into firing vehicles. You have seen in our Sudan video that this is how rebels in Africa do it
With these weapons, the rebels first captured Benghazi and then
They began to advance towards the Libyan capital, Tripoli. But Colonel Gaddafi's forces defeated them on the way
And they all had to go back to Benghazi. After that, Colonel Gaddafi sent a large number of troops to attack Benghazi
So that the rebellion is crushed completely. This decision made it possible
That they would kill unarmed rebel supporters as well
Colonel Gaddafi's forces were fully capable of doing all this. There was only one way out for the rebels and Benghazi protesters
That they get external help from a powerful country. Got a lifeline.
This was the moment when France, Great Britain and America jumped into the war.
On March 17, 2011, through the efforts of these three countries
The UN Security Council approved all possible measures to save civilians in Libya.
In this regard, the resolution that was presented in the Security Council was not vetoed by the opposing faction of the Western countries, i.e. Russia and China.
Although these two countries were considered close allies of the Libyan government. Yes, it is also true that they did not even support the attack on Libya
But obviously he did not oppose this resolution, he remained silent. For this reason, this resolution was approved and under its guise, the United States and its allies decided to establish a no-fly zone in Libya.
did not
That is, no plane could fly in the airspace of Libya, which means that no plane of Colonel Gaddafi's loyal forces could bomb the people.
This process was made possible by the fighter jets of these three countries
That no Lebanese plane can take off and if it does take off, it should be destroyed.
Now friends, America, Great Britain and France were helping the common people of Libya, but actually these countries wanted to overthrow Colonel Gaddafi for many years.
Especially America and Great Britain were their declared enemies.
For example, one of the reasons was that Muammar Gaddafi took over the government of Libya in 1969
So America and Great Britain were the biggest losers. Muammar Gaddafi ended the American and British military bases in Libya.
Then the oil fields of Libya were also taken by Muammar Gaddafi from the control of the United States and Great Britain.
Then nationalized the country's oil fields by forming the National Oil Corporation, took them under national custody.
It is obvious that the United States and Great Britain suffered a great economic loss. So, because of these events, these two countries considered Muammar Gaddafi as their enemy in Libya.
Then there was the US-Russia Cold War that lasted until 1991, during which there were numerous incidents that further fueled this rivalry.
As Britain has accused Muammar Gaddafi of funding the Irish Republican Army, the "IRA", a separatist organization in the British territory of Northern Ireland.
According to a British propaganda newsreel, the Lebanese government gave the "IRA" two million dollars a year.
In addition, the Palestinian group Black September, which killed five Israeli athletes in the German city of Munich in 1972,
Colonel Gaddafi was also accused of helping them. Another problem had happened
That on December 21, 1988, an American passenger plane crashed into a British city
Locker B's airspace was bombed. A total of 270 people were killed in this explosion.
After a long investigation, the American and Scottish agencies blamed the explosion on the Libyan intelligence agency and two of its officials.
One of the masterminds was Abdul Basit al-Gharahi. He was handed over to the Scottish government by Colonel Gaddafi under severe international pressure.
While he was tried and convicted, the case continued to cause tension in the West and Libya.
Many details of this have also been coming on Wikileaks, Muammar Gaddafi did not give up even after that.
And trying to provide support to Abd al-Basit, he put severe diplomatic and economic pressure on Britain
And Abdul Basit was finally released from a Scottish prison
And brought back to Libya. After which, the relations of the United States and Britain with Colonel Gaddafi continued to be strained.
This is why Western countries long before the Arab Spring
Col. Gaddafi wanted to be overthrown and had made attempts, which were unsuccessful.
But this time, in the guise of the Arab Spring, the UN resolution gave them a golden opportunity
That they fulfill their desire of years. The move to establish a no-fly zone over Libya was largely led by Britain and France
While the American forces continued to provide them with support. Coalition ships fired missiles at Muammar Gaddafi's military positions from the Mediterranean Sea.
While planes also bombarded important places day and night, regardless of whether they were allowed to establish a no-fly zone or not.
As a result of this devastating bombing, forces loyal to Gaddafi had to leave the Benghazi front entirely.
Due to which the pressure on the rebels decreased and they attacked the capital Tripoli with their vehicles and Kalashnikovs.
Meanwhile, the Western media continued to portray Colonel Gaddafi as a criminal.
On June 20, 2011, the International Criminal Court charged him with killing armed civilians
Arrest warrants were also issued for Colonel Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Sanusi.
Apart from this, all Libyan assets in America and Europe were also frozen.
How many assets were there? You can imagine that more than 34 billion dollars of Gaddafi's assets were frozen in America alone.
Gaddafi was weakened to the point that by late August 2011 rebel militias, with military support from NATO,
The Libyan capital, Tripoli, had been captured. Muammar Gaddafi fled to his hometown "Sirt", 450 kilometers east of Tripoli.
Because they were most loyal to him there, even after the end of the Gaddafi regime, NATO did not stop chasing them.
Airstrikes on Muammar Gaddafi's forces continued in Sirte as well. With air support, the rebels also surrounded Gaddafi's home town in this way
That the roads leading out of the area were blocked. No one could leave the city without their permission
But what happened was that despite the noses, a convoy of about eighty vehicles came out of Sirte on October 20.
The convoy, which included Muammar Gaddafi and his associates, was heading west from the city.
That is, they were heading back to Tripoli. Machine guns were also mounted on several pick-up trucks involved in it.
Around 8:30 in the morning, an American drone linked to NATO and a French jet targeted this convoy.
About twenty one vehicles were destroyed in this bombing. The rest of the vehicles were captured by the militia from the city of Misrata, which had blockaded Sirte
He surrounded. The fight started. Muammar Gaddafi, his son Mutassim in a shower of bullets
And the military commander Yunus Jabr left the convoy and hid in a nearby house.
While his children continued to fight with the Misrata militia.
Obviously
They could not compete much, resources were less, so they soon started losing.
Colonel Gaddafi and some of his colleagues ran away from this house as the rebels' encirclement began to tighten
And headed to a construction site. There were drainage pipes scattered,
Everyone took refuge in them. See the irony of the times
That Muammar Gaddafi used to call the rebels cockroaches and rats. And now he himself was hiding in such a place
Where cockroaches and rats live. But even here they could not stay hidden for long, one of the rebels, a young Imran Shaban, chased them out
He came to know that Colonel Gaddafi and his associates are hiding here. The rebels forced Colonel Gaddafi and his son Mutassim out of the drainage pipe.
Because in the videos that came out, Gaddafi coming out of the pipes was clearly injured
As if injured by the explosion of a grenade.
However, he was conscious when he was caught. He was begging for his life.
The dictator, who was a dictator for forty-two years, also said this at the last moment
That I have spoiled you? This phrase can also be heard in the shouts of the crowd
Are you people able to distinguish between right and wrong? The angry protestors, full of passion and anger, did what mobs do,
They killed Colonel Gaddafi and his son Mutassim Gaddafi.
During this time, Gaddafi was also hit by a bullet and that may have been the cause of his death. Colonel Gaddafi's body was taken from Sirte to another city, Misrata
and placed in cold storage. The body lay there for a few days and people came from all over the country to see it.
And believing that he was no more, the body was buried in an unknown place in the desert
So that his mausoleum can never be built, people can't make him their hero.
According to international human rights, the extrajudicial killing of Colonel Gaddafi was an inhumane act.
Killing someone without a judicial trial is a grave violation of human rights
And it cannot be supported. Now it is obvious that this is what Colonel Gaddafi himself used to do, which led to the bloody revolution against him.
That is why it is opposed that if the tyrant is killed in the manner of the tyrant, then what is the difference between the just and the tyrant?
Libya's National Transitional Council, an interim government, announced an investigation into the killing.
But the investigation was never completed, and no arrests were made for Gaddafi's murder.
This was part of the destruction of Libya, in which the revolution was apparently successful.
Colonel Gaddafi was sidelined by the Western powers and the Libyan people.
Young people, excited by the Arab Spring, thought that everything would be fine in Libya now. But remember,
If the answer to cruelty is cruelty, then the result will be even greater cruelty. There is no better way to change than evolution
So, there was no evolution here, so cruelty started to happen in Libya more than before.
They are friends that Muammar Gaddafi's 42-year rule suppressed many problems in Libya.
There were a variety of tribal, ethnic and religious fault lines that he overcame by force.
They did not solve them, it was their failure, but kept them suppressed
As soon as they left, all these fault lines emerged. Old tribal rivalries and other issues resurfaced.
The biggest problem was that the revolutionary people, as always, would overthrow the government
And while they were experts at creating chaos, they were woefully incompetent to run a country. They did not know how to take this country with a small population forward.
What will post Gaddafi Libya look like? He never thought about this problem.
They were trampling everything in the romanticism of the revolution. And they were thinking that it would be very easy to fix everything after the overthrow of this regime
Muammar Gaddafi, who was running all the government institutions around himself, collapsed with his death.
Now there was no government system in the country, no institution, not even a police department which is primarily responsible for the security of the citizens.
That too was over. Then the biggest problem was that thousands of militia forces had been established in Libya
They had foreign aided modern weapons but no employment.
These militias refused to disarm after the revolution and started occupying different parts of Libya.
The situation was that the capital Tripoli was under the control of seven militias at a time.
The National Transitional Council, a temporary body, was nominally in power.
However, this government made an effort to bring the militias under its control.
He announced that all militiamen would receive salaries from the government. And will gradually join the government.
The government thought that by keeping these people on its payroll, we would make them loyal and they would be integrated into a national army.
But the outcome of this decision was completely reversed, that is, the militia commanders took unfair advantage of this decision.
That the number of his forces was unusually high told the government
Meaning, if a commander had 1,000 men, he said, "I have 1500 or 2,000 men."
And he started receiving their salaries himself. Thus, a new chapter of corruption has opened with this government decision
And militia commanders became wealthy within months. And several factions were formed within the militia group to collect as much money as possible
Then not only that, but they started setting up check posts in their respective areas
And collecting taxes from citizens passing through there Started doing it. At the same time, several militias started fighting for control of Libya's biggest wealth, oil.
Some militias blockaded Libyan ports to meet their demands
And stopped the supply of oil. It was a huge loss. During 23 and 14, Libya lost 30 billion dollars in oil revenue.
In 2015, Lebanese oil production dropped to only three hundred thousand barrels
Which was previously sixteen million barrels per day.
It has been an economic loss, but you know the biggest loss is social.
In which people stop trusting each other and start considering the opponent as an enemy, even a mortal enemy.
This atmosphere makes a good person bad and makes a bad person dangerous.
So this is what happened in Libya. Pro-Gaddafi tribes and loyalists began targeting those who rebelled against Gaddafi.
And the rebels continued to kill supporters.
There was so much chaos that chaos became a normalcy for the people. Former officers of the Gaddafi regime who joined the rebels,
The first to be targeted, he was called a traitor, was the head of the rebel army, Abdul Fateh Younis, who was once Colonel Gaddafi's right-hand man.
He was the interior minister, he was also killed. He was killed at this time in July 2011, a few months after Colonel Gaddafi
When he was returning from a military mission. To this day, it is not clear how the most important military commander of the rebels was killed. who killed
Because the blame fell on a group within the rebels as well as Gaddafi loyalists.
Then there were groups within groups. As with any bloody revolution.
Battles broke out within the rebels.
The 22-year-old Imran Shaaban who pulled Colonel Gaddafi and his son out of the drain pipe
And he was the hero of the rebels, he was also kidnapped and tortured for fifty days.
When he tried to run away, he was shot in the neck and stomach. He was again thrown into prison while seriously injured.
Meanwhile, the National Transitional Council of Libya released him through difficult negotiations.
But obviously the wounds were deep and could not be healed. France helped liberate Gaddafi
Issued him a humanitarian visa so that he could be treated.
Imran Shaaban was taken to a hospital in Paris, but even the city of perfumes could not cure his pain and he died.
Gaddafi's military commander, Muhammad Hadia al-Fituri, who joined the rebels in the early days of the Lebanese revolution.
He was killed in August 2012. At a time when he was leaving the mosque after performing the Friday prayer.
Fourteen other officers like him who joined the insurgents were killed one by one in Benghazi.
All of these deaths were blamed on rebel groups that did not want to incorporate the remnants of Gaddafi's regime into the new Libya.
It means that they had turned against those whom they had brought the revolution
That is, the revolution was eating its children as usual, so long story short, not a year had passed since Gaddafi was killed
That the most important heroes of the killers had also been killed and so were the opponents. Especially the cities where the revolution started,
In the city of Benghazi, fighting and target killing became the norm. The civil war was not coming to an end.
Even the countries that helped overthrow Colonel Gaddafi could not be safe from this situation.
That is, America, Great Britain and France, they also had to suffer some pain.
On June 11, 2012, the British ambassador's convoy was fired upon in Benghazi
In which two British guards were injured. Earlier, there was also a bomb attack on the British Embassy building.
After the shooting incident, Britain withdrew its diplomatic staff from Benghazi. After Britain, the American consulate became the next target of militants.
The Americans had set up their consulate in a rented house in Benghazi. Some Americans were also staying in another compound nearby.
On September 11, 2012, gunmen stormed the US Consulate and its nearby compound.
US Ambassador Christopher Sittons and three other Americans were killed in the attack. A fast-paced action thriller movie, "Thirteen Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi", has also been made about the incident.
So the killing of its ambassador in Benghazi shook the United States. He was paying a heavy price for helping the rebels in Libya.
The US immediately closed its consulate in Libya. Some CIA agents in Libya were on a mission to buy air-to-air missiles from the rebels.
The aim was to prevent the rebels from possessing such missiles
which can later be used by terrorist groups against civilian aircraft.
However, after the killing of the American ambassador in Benghazi, these agents were also withdrawn from Libya.
In other words, the missiles remained with the rebels. Let us also tell you that the United States did not take any retaliatory action on this incident.
That is, it did not target any rebel group in Libya, because that would have completely lost the impression of helping Libya.
The rebels would see him as an enemy. However, there was a serious investigation on this incident in the United States.
Then the person who celebrated Gaddafi's death the most suffered the consequences.
The person's name was Hillary Clinton.
The then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton faced a high-level inquiry in the US.
He also had to resign on February 1, 2013, a few months after the Benghazi attack
Some say they were removed, some say they were six Had to fly. Whoever it was, they no longer have this position
It was because of the ethics of Benghazi that the results of the revolution in Libya disappointed US President Obama so much
That he also said that the biggest regret of his presidency is Libya.
After the attacks on the ambassadors of the United States and the United Kingdom, France, the third largest country that ousted Muammar Gaddafi, also suffered a heavy blow.
On the morning of April 2013, a car bomb exploded outside the French Embassy in Tripoli.
In this explosion, an entire wall of the embassy was blown away and the internal structure of the building was also severely damaged.
Two French guards were injured in this bomb attack. French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who bombed Libya aggressively
They also faced difficulties. But their difficulties were political. An inquiry was started against him in France.
It was alleged in the inquiry that he took funds of five million euros from Muammar Gaddafi to win the presidential election in 2007.
Fifty million euros President Sarkozy denied this charge
And this could not be proved even in the inquiry. Well, for your interest let us tell you that Nicolas Sarkozy in 2021
A magistrate was sentenced to a year's house arrest and wearing an electronic bracelet for bribery.
But he did not have to suffer this sentence at present as his appeal against it was being heard.
As of the preparation of this video, the appeal against the sentence has also been dismissed.
So it is possible that this punishment will start in some time.
So friends, this is the story of the different conditions in Libya that everyone is suffering as a result of the unwise way to end the dictatorship of Colonel Gaddafi.
Yes, it is true that during this time the world powers did not leave Libya alone. Rather, they did so through both political and military means
He also made his own efforts to solve the Libyan crisis. For example, in July 2012, elections were held in Libya with international efforts.
As a result of these elections, two hundred members of Parliament were elected.
This parliament was named General National Congress, GNC. The GNC elected Muhammad Yusuf al-Maqrif as the president of Libya with one hundred and thirteen votes.
In this way, the shape and form of the government began to be formed in Libya, but this government also established peace in Libya
And failed to withdraw weapons from several gangs roaming around with modern weapons.
The violence continued to spread. In these circumstances, an old friend of Muammar Gaddafi and a strongman like him, came forward
whose name was "Khalifa Haftar". My Curious Fellows Khalifa Haftar since the fall of Gaddafi in 1969
He was included in his close circle. For years he stayed with Muammar Gaddafi as a loyal commander.
But in 1987 when he was a colonel in the army
So it happened that Muammar Gaddafi sent them inside the border of the southern neighbor Republic of Chad.
Ouzo sent for possession on the strip. Chad was in possession of the belt that went up to 100 km.
But Libya used to claim this area as its own. There were vast deposits of uranium at this place
And this wealth was the bone of contention, the cause of the fight. Colonel Gaddafi could not send troops here.
Because they had an agreement with France, the former colonial master of Chad,
According to which Libya will never enter the territory of Chad. So whoever Colonel Gaddafi used to send here, he didn't do it.
They called them Libyan lovers, or any freedom fighters, but did not believe in their army.
But they continued to intervene inside Chad. He continued to send people there
So, to take full control of this Ouzo strip, Chad Republic had planned an operation together with France.
Colonel Gaddafi sent his trusted and experienced colleague Khalifa Haftar here to sabotage this operation.
But what happened was that Khalifa Haftar failed. The Chadian army launched a full-scale offensive with the help of France.
and took possession of the Ouzo Strip. But it was very bad for Colonel Gaddafi
Khalifa Haftar was captured and arrested along with his six hundred soldiers. That is, Colonel Gaddafi's lie that there are no people on the Uzu Strip has been exposed.
The same issue was used by Chad against Colonel Gaddafi that the Lebanese government does not abide by its international agreements.
This is a rogue state. Etc. Etc. When Colonel Gaddafi was asked that Mr. Khalifa Haftar is his old friend,
How can you deny that those arrested in Chad were not your people?
So, surprisingly, Colonel Gaddafi turned away from him. He asked the journalists in reverse
Who is Khalifa Haftar? I do not know any Haftar? Maybe a Bedouin herding goats crossed the border by mistake?
When the news reached Khalifa Haftar, who was imprisoned in Chad, that Colonel Gaddafi had refused to even recognize him.
So they turned against the Lebanese leader.
It was at this time that the American intelligence agency CIA entered the whole matter.
In such a way that along with France, the American CIA and Israel were also making efforts to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi.
Especially in the 1980s, under the US President Ronald Reagan, these efforts were being made vigorously.
At one point, President Reagan called Muammar Gaddafi the mad dog of the Middle East.
They used to accuse that Colonel Gaddafi wants to bring revolution of Islamic fundamentalism in the world.
In April 1986, a bomb exploded at a club in West Berlin, Germany, killing three people
And two hundred and twenty-nine were injured. President Reagan a Blaming Libya for terrorism
He ordered to bomb it. It was America's first declared major war against terrorism.
In this bombing under Operation El Drado Canyon, military bases in Tripoli and Benghazi were targeted.
More than forty Lebanese were killed or injured in the bombing
And many planes, helicopters and warships were also destroyed. Colonel Gaddafi's residential compound was also targeted, but he was spared.
However, one of his adopted daughters, Hana Gaddafi, was reportedly killed.
During these attacks, the Lebanese military also shot down at least three American planes and two American pilots were killed.
The Reagan administration not only attacked Libya, but also heavily funded the Republic of Chad against Libya.
It was with this funding and French military support that Chad won the Battle of Ozour.
So let's get back to the jailed Khalifa Haftar and his cohorts. When the Lebanese government and Colonel Gaddafi turned their backs on them
So now this was excellent material for the intelligence agencies. So they were joined by the American secret agency CIA.
These people were trained in Chad and its neighboring country, Cameroon, at the CIA and Israeli Mossad campuses.
The CIA placed Khalifa Haftar in a Libyan group called the National Front for the Salvation of Libya.
He was added as a military commander. This group was established by some opponents during the regime of Muammar Gaddafi while living in Chad
And he had the full support of the CIA. Meaning Chad was also fighting continuously in Libya historically
Khalifa Haftar planned military coups in Libya after becoming the military commander of this organization.
Khalifa Haftar was allegedly involved in at least three military coups in 1993, 95 and 96.
All these coups were taking place with the help of CIA but Colonel Gaddafi failed all these coups.
After all these failures, Khalifa Haftar moved to America and settled in the state of Virginia.
In 2011, when the revolutionary movement started after the Arab Spring against Colonel Gaddafi
So they returned to Libya once again via Egypt. He was among the commanders of the rebel forces.
But after the revolution was successful, he did not become a part of the new government setup.
In the following years, he sometimes went to America and sometimes returned to the deserts of Libya.
But in 2014 he started a new mission. This mission was to control Libya.
In February 2014, two and a half years after the assassination of Colonel Gaddafi
Khalifa Haftar was beginning to understand that he is now ready to take over Libya.
There was a parliament in Libya at that time without destroying which they could not succeed in their mission.
Khalifa Haftar released a video message to make this parliament controversial
That the Parliament of Libya i.e. the General National Congress be dissolved.
He demanded that a new caretaker government should be established to conduct new elections.
Parliament dismissed his announcement as a coup and did not take it seriously.
But in the meantime, Khalifa Haftar began to gather an army of his loyalists from city to city in Libya.
Building such an army was not difficult in Libya, where there were thousands of armed unemployed youths.
So Khalifa Haftar prepared an army of such people. It is said that he had the help of CIA in all this
He also knew former soldiers from the Gaddafi era. Many of them also came with him.
Many troops of the government army formed by the rebels also joined them.
And their position became very strong. Khalifa Haftar announced in May 2014
That they want to rid Tripoli and Benghazi of religious extremist groups.
In those days, in 2014, there was a lot of talk about a group called Ansar al-Sharia. The group was affiliated with Al-Qaeda.
The city of Benghazi had become his major stronghold. The same organization was also believed to be responsible for the assassination of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
Apart from this, some religious militias were also operating in Tripoli. These militias had completely rendered the parliament in Tripoli helpless
And government control in the city was nominal. They were in control there because they had the power
Khalifa Haftar first launched a military operation against Ansar al-Sharia in Benghazi, dubbed Operation Dignity.
This operation failed in the first year and Ansar al-Sharia remained in control of the center of Benghazi.
But in the next three years, by the end of 2017, Khalifa Haftar's forces gradually captured the entire Benghazi.
During this time, taking advantage of the chaos in Libya, the extremist organization ISIS also raised its head.
The cities of Sirt and Darna became his strongholds. But Khalifa Haftar occupied these two areas in turn and drove out Daesh as well.
As soon as he saw it, he appeared in front of the world as the strongman of Libya. That is, by becoming the perfect alternative to Muammar Gaddafi.
A man who could bring complete peace to Libya.
Then Khalifa Haftar seized some of Libya's resources.
But they still did not have complete control over Libya. This was because Tripoli was out of their hands.
That is, where the GNC was established and the hold of the religious militias had not yet come under the control of Khalifa Haftar.
Whenever they attacked Tripoli, the Islamic militias there thwarted all their attacks.
My Curious Fellows The greatest development in Libya's political conflict took place in June 2014.
When washed up in Libya .
The election was held. Voter turnout in these elections was extremely low ie only eighteen percent.
In this election, a new parliament was elected which was named the House of Representatives.
It was now that the secular and nationalist representatives had a majority in this parliament while the religious representatives were badly defeated in the elections.
Religious militias did not like this situation. So two months later these militias started attacks to capture the capital Tripoli.
His supporters also reached Tripoli in large numbers from the Libyan coastal city of Misrata.
Seeing this situation, the people of the new parliament i.e. the House of Representatives fled to the city of Tobruk in eastern Libya
which was controlled by Khalifa Haftar. Khalifa Haftar sheltered these people
And recognized the legitimacy of this new parliament. On the other hand, the Islamic militias in Tripoli whose alliance was called Operation Dawn
He established his own government. Since then, the situation has been that there are two separate governments in Libya.
Tripoli is governed by Islamic militias "Operation Dawn" and Khalifa Haftar in Tabaruk by the "Representatives in Security".
The United Nations is constantly trying to broker an agreement between these rival governments.
The main point of this possible agreement is that there should be fair and transparent elections in the country
And one central government should be established. Elections were also announced in 2018, but the elections could not be held.
Until the production of this video, the negotiations between the various Lebanese groups do not seem to be yielding any results.
Because the matter is not so simple anymore
It has included the conflicting interests of major world powers.
He said that the government of Tripoli has the full support of Turkey and Qatar.
Turkey continues to send troops, advanced weapons and drones to support the Tripoli government.
These weapons have enabled Tripoli's forces to consistently repel Khalifa Haftar's attacks.
On the other hand, Russia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia under Khalifa Haftar and his supervision
Supporting the established governments in Tobaruk and Sirte. The Washington Post reported in 2021
That Russia has sent three hundred and thirty flights to Libya in just eighteen months.
Through these flights, a large number of Russian militia Wagner and Syrian groups were landed in Libya.
World experts believe that Turkey and Russia want to seize Libya's oil and gas reserves
And want to establish their permanent bases in these areas. If their interests are not fulfilled, they will divide Libya into two parts.
This means that Libya, which is already divided into two governments, will be permanently divided.
If a country with a population of only six point seven million is divided, think how weak both parts will be.
One part will be influenced by Turkey and the other will be influenced by Russia and its allies. In these circumstances, it seems that after the death of Colonel Gaddafi
The genie that has come out of the bottle of civil war in Libya will take a long time to go back.
